In all the stories of medieval times, you see young leaders who grow into their roles. When faced with the difficult choices and struggles of leadership - they realize that duty is their lone option. They can’t get out of the situation. There is no way to avoid conflict as a responsible leader. The hard choices must be made, and no one else wants to.
I do think that’s why it took so many years of human existence on the planet to get around to creating democracy. It’s far easier to say - you, you’re in charge. Thanks for making all the crippling choices. Leaders have the power to protect us and the obligation to follow through.
