Vanity metrics

There are so many people out there that care about meaningless statistics. We are a data centered culture nowaday - but, it’s wicked easy to get lead astray from what’s really important. Let’s use Twitter as an example.

People often say things like - let’s do a follow for follow! Or, I am 100 short of 1k total followers, help me get there. It’s easy to rationalize the value of raw reach. However, how much of what we follow is just noise to be ignored. Is follower count that important? Are impressions?

Honestly, the number shouldn’t matter if the content being produced is thoughtful & high quality. Treating growth as an outcome of authority, trust & connection should be the goal. Not a vanity metric.
